Firestone used to make more than just tires. They used to sell radios from stores and there car garages. This beautiful radio was one of them in 1947. The owner wanted the full restoration and it came out great. The stripping was a nightmare due to all the curves and tight creaveses the casing had. The chemical stripper helped but scrapping off the residue after was messy. Finally after several tries with the stripper we resorted to a light sanding. The quality of the veneer was great. the stain and poly took to the wood nicely. It just wanted to go back together. After several coats of poly and hand polishing it came out like a mirror. I am proud of the top and front especially because of the mirror finish and the blending of the decals. All said and done this would be another radio we would be sad to see go but what a nice set it is.
