Bendix Model 526B
I love this little Bendix radio. Couldn't find alot of info on this radio on line. I did find out though the 526A has the brown plastic case, the 526C was a colorful Catalin Case, and the 526E was a wood case. I also found conflicting years, 1946 or 1947. If someone knows more about this radio please contact me. I would love to know more.
Work Done
As soon as I inspected this radio and realized the knobs, dial, and case were in great shape I knew I had to do the best restore job possible. The radio has been completely recapped. I gutted out the old casings and installed new caps inside them. A new polarized power plug was installed along with quality electrolytic capacitors to provide years of service. Tubes tested good and chassis was polished even though it did not need it. knobs original to set and in great shape. I just cleaned them well and sprayed some GlazeIt to bring back there ruby luster. Case was hand sanded to perfection and repainted to its original color using high quality Mohawk lacquer paints. I had a tough time with the power cord install. I wanted to copy the odd knot the original power cord had to hold it in the chassi. After 30 minutes I got it but it was not as easy at it looked. Glad I did it though because it definitly does the trick in a tight odd space. For a better definition on my idea of a complete restoration click here.
Good Points on radio
Hard to believe but the classic art deco shape of the case is not the only great point about this radio. The actual radio itself is highly sensitive and great all around. The tone of this radio is deep not tinny. You would not expect such a full sound out of a small radio. It is also very heavy which I think is a good aspect. This radio is solid. You won't accidently move it when you go turn it on or adjust the volume. The built in handle is nice but can't imagine lugging it around to far because of its weight. Can't say enough about this radio. If you are looking for surprise this is it. A "sleeper" if you will.

Bad Points on radio
This radio was built with one light for the dial all the way to the right. So dial is not so pretty in the dark. The lower back of the radio has a rough feel to the finish. Still shines and looks great but still there.
