This is a Silvertone 4500A. It has had a complete restoration. This radio is a real eye catcher and evidently a significant piece of radio production history. I have read that this was the first popular plastic case radio on the market and eventually did in the bakelite cases. It also had the nick name 'The Curtain Burner' because of the back tubes would get hot when the set was left on for extended periods of time.
Work Done
All the relevant resistors and capacitors have been replaced. In the upper right hand corner you can see the work done along with the in line fuse installed for safety. Four phenolic spacers custom made to keep the chassis away from the bottom plate. New polarized power plug installed. Tubes tested and chassis painted. Case was cracked and repaired by hand with epoxy. Case was then finished in Mohawk enamel paint that is made to look like lacquer, Light Antique Ivory. Minor speaker repair.
Good Points on radio
This radio stands out because of its really unique case. The back speaker carpet is not installed so that the heat from the tubes won't build up inside the case when the radio is played for long periods of time. You can see the tube filiments glow when in use. This radio is loud and is highly sensitive with its external antenna extended. This radio is also heavy for its size making it perfect for use as a book end. This radio is also perfect for listening to talk shows or weather reports. Did I mention it's loud? It should last for another sixty years if taken care of. One sharp looking radio that works and has some history behind it.

Bad Points on radio
Radio did have a crack that has been repaired. Can't tell when looking at it. Besides this it is one nice little radio.
