Philco Model 46-420 'Hippo'
I found another one!! Again, this is one of the classics that has been growing in popularity lately. A Philco 'Hippo'! More info on this radio at Philcoradio.com This is a real unique looking radio that looks even better with the lights off because of its dial. I already have a white one in my collection and won't part with it.
Work Done
The radio has been completely recapped to last another lifetime. Case has no cracks or major chips. Case was carefully cleaned and polished with GlazeIt to a deep sheen. A new polarized power plug was installed along with quality electrolytic capacitors to provide years of service. Tubes tested good, mostly philco tubes, and chassis was cleaned and polished to a shine. Dial face was cleaned and polished. knobs original to set and where cleaned in agitator. Good Points on radio
Highly sensitive and a clear as day sound. I had this radio play for 10 hours straight to test out my work and it played and sounded great with no problems. This is another great example of a Philco 'Hippo' radio. All original labels, stamps, and tags are there and in great shape! See pictures. The case is also in good shape and has the classic bakelite brown "marblization" to it that I tried to capture with the pictures. No cracks or major chips, just a fine scratch here and there. The Plastic dial is in good condition and is 'smoke' free with all number coloring clear. Chassie is rust free, polished to a shine, and looks untouched. All wiring is in great shape including original plastic coated wire. Original Philco front badge in fair shape and fiber board back with all four clips.
Bad Points on radio
This radio has some hard to see minor scratches. Hardly noticeable but still there. See pictures to right. Dial also has few minor scratches that are also hardly noticeable. It adds to the look. Speaker had small tear and repaired with speaker glue. No sacrifice to sound quality.

I stand behind my work and have a 30 day warrantee on labor NOT PARTS. That means if it breaks in 30 days I will do my best to fix it but you pay for new parts and shipping costs. I do NOT think this is even needed. Please keep in mind this is a really old radio and does not sound or act like a modern radio. It is a show piece and should be treated as such.
