Seeburg 1959 jukebox Model Q100

When this Seeburg came to us it was in great shape externally and untouched since the factory. When tried it would have trouble-selecting records and produced no audio when it did. Obviously it needed an all around service and a recapping. Once we started digging into with this model we quickly realized it was a true stereo unit. Everything was double on the amplifier board along with two sets of speakers. This could only sound incredible when finished.
We started recapping the boards first. In the picture to the right you can see how one of the electrolytic caps did not survive and burst. This capacitor was in line supplying power to the amplifier board. This would explain no audio. Once a complete recapping was finished a good cleaning of all the contacts, tube sockets, and plug pins. Next was the cleaning of the terminals on the Tormat solid-state selection bar. Because the jukebox was not used for so long and not cleaned at all during this time the small round contacts were badly oxidized. This was definitely the issue with poor performance of selecting records. Some contact cleaner and fine grade metal pad cleaned this issue right up.
Next was the lubrication and inspection of the mechanism. It was in great shape. The contacts looked new and just needed to be cleaned. The large capacitor on the mechanism was swapped out along with lubrication of the clutch. Not much to do but clean what was there and leave alone.
With all the major parts of the jukebox being serviced it was time to try it out. It selected just fine but still no audio after all the work. This left us scratching our heads for bit. All the tube filaments were lit on the amplifier board except the large rectifier tube between the twin transformers. That one tube alone was not getting power. We traced the lack of voltage back to the once before checked SloBlow fuse. It was old but tested good. Re-installed the fuse and still no power at this point. We inspected closer and discovered someone, in the past, really cranked on the fuse holder and broke it. SO the fuse was in there but not making contact. We proceeded to swap out the entire fuse holder and install a fresh fuse. Once this was done the audio came out loud and clear. Both the owner and I were amazed at the sound this jukebox makes. It should considering it basically has a separate amplifier board for each side. At this point we just polished the chrome and glass and let it play. One really nice jukebox in great shape with a new lease on life.
